Energy Conversion Experts Converge on Dalian, China, for ACS Publications Symposium

ACS Publications recently held its second ACS Publications Symposium in China. The event, “Innovation in Energy Conversion – A Physical Chemistry Perspective” was held in Dalian, China from September 24-26, 2017. The symposium drew almost 500 researchers and students from China and abroad.

The three-day symposium drew almost 500 researchers and students from China and abroad. Attendees were able to hear from 20 notable speakers in the field, as well as more than 50 attendees who help poster presentations.

ACS organized the event in partnership with Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (DICP) and the Collaborative Innovation Center of Chemistry for Energy Materials (iChEM).

The symposium’s Organizing Committee includes: Professor George C. Schatz, Editor-in-Chief, The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, B, and C and  The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters; Professor Xueming Yang, Senior Editor, The Journal of Physical Chemistry and DICP; Professor Can Li, DICP/iChEM; Professor Tao Zhang, DICP; Professor Françoise Winnik, Editor-in-Chief, Langmuir; Professor Prashant V. Kamat, Editor-in-Chief, ACS Energy Letters; and Dr. Feng Chen, ACS Publications.

“The Dalian symposium was a superb opportunity for the best scientists working in energy conversion in China, the United States, and elsewhere, to get together and share information about the latest discoveries and advances,” says Schatz. “I found that the meeting was especially good at bridging different scientific communities, from heterogeneous catalysis to solar fuels and storage. The discussions were lively, and it was especially good to see questions from the large number of students and postdocs who were participating.”

“The American Chemical Society shares a commitment to the value of research excellence in chemistry and allied fields,” says Thomas M. Connelly, Executive Director and CEO of the American Chemical Society. “We are grateful to our partners in Dalian for hosting the second symposium in a ground-breaking series that provides a prominent forum for scientists, researchers, and students to share exciting research advances and to connect leading energy researchers from around the globe.”

But that’s not all. ACS Publications is heading to Shanghai, China from October 22-24, for a third symposium, this time focusing on “Innovation in Molecular Synthesis.” Confirmed speakers include 2016 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry Sir J. Fraser Stoddart. The symposium’s Organizing Committee includes Professor Amos B. Smith, III, Editor-in-Chief, Organic Letters; Professor Scott J. Miller, Editor-in-Chief, The Journal of Organic Chemistry; Professor Kuiling Ding, Associate Editor, Organic Letters and Director, SIOC; Professor Dawei Ma, Associate Editor, The Journal of Organic Chemistry and Deputy Director, SIOC; and Dr. Feng Chen, ACS Publications.
