ACS Publications Librarian and Library School Student Travel Grant

Terms & Conditions

Eligibility: ACS Publications Librarian and Library School Student Travel Grant (the “travel grant”) is open only to persons who are at least 18 as of the date of entry, are either a full-time librarian OR student in an ALA-accredited, or equivalent, library science program, and complete their application in full via email by the deadline. The travel grant is void where prohibited by law. Employees of the American Chemical Society (the “Sponsor”) their respective affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, suppliers and their immediate family members and/or those living in the same household of each are not eligible to participate in the travel grant. The travel grant is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Agreement to Rules: By participating, you agree to be fully and unconditionally bound by these Rules, and you represent and warrant that you meet the eligibility requirements set forth herein. In addition, you agree to accept the decisions of The American Chemical Society as final and binding as it relates to the content. The travel grant is subject to all applicable international, federal, state, and local laws.

Entry Period: Applications will be accepted via email and must be received by June 22, 2018, 5 PM EDT. The entry period may be extended at ACS’ sole discretion.

How to Apply: The application is submitted via email to M_Qiu@acs.org. If you use fraudulent methods or otherwise attempt to circumvent the rules your submission may be removed from eligibility at the sole discretion of The American Chemical Society. Upon submitting an entry, the submitter grants ACS the right to use said entry for purposes of advertising and trade without further compensation unless prohibited by law.

Awards: The committee-selected recipients will win one of four ACS Publications Travel Grants: two awards for residents of North, Central, and South America (“The Americas”) countries and two awards for residents of Europe, Middle East, and Africa (“EMEA”) countries. All recipients will receive a post-conference travel reimbursement via paper check or wire transfer for expenses incurred to attend the ACS National Meeting. Reimbursements are capped at $2500 USD for The Americas and $5000 for EMEA recipients. In addition to the reimbursement, all recipients will receive a full conference registration and one full year of complementary ACS membership.

No substitutions for these awards will be permitted except at the American Chemical Society’s discretion. The awards are nontransferable. Any and all related expenses, including without limitation any and all federal, state, and/or local taxes shall be the sole responsibility of the recipient.. Acceptance of an award shall constitute permission for The American Chemical Society to use recipient’s name, likeness, and entry for purposes of advertising and trade without further compensation unless prohibited by law.

Recipient selection and notification: Recipient of the travel grant will be chosen by a committee and notified via email. If a recipient fails to acknowledge the award after notification during the designed period, is unable to attend the entire ACS National Meeting, or cannot obtain a visa or other required authorization to travel to the United States, the award may be forfeited and an alternate recipient selected.

The award offered in this travel grant is conditioned upon compliance with any and all international, federal, and state laws and regulations. ANY VIOLATION OF THESE OFFICIAL RULES BY ANY RECIPIENT (AT THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY’S SOLE DISCRETION) WILL RESULT IN SUCH RECIPIENT’S DISQUALIFICATION AS RECIPIENT OF THE TRAVEL GRANT, AND ALL PRIVILEGES AS RECIPIENT WILL BE IMMEDIATELY TERMINATED.

Rights Granted by you: By entering this content you understand that The American Chemical Society, anyone acting on behalf of The American Chemical Society, or its respective licensees, successors and assigns will have the right, where permitted by law, without any further notice, review or consent to print, publish, broadcast, distribute, and use, worldwide in any media now known or hereafter in perpetuity and throughout the World, your entry, including, without limitation, the entry and recipient’s name, portrait, picture, voice, likeness, image or statements about the travel grant, and biographical information as news, publicity or information and for trade, advertising, public relations and promotional purposes without any further compensation.

Terms: The American Chemical Society reserves the right, in its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the travel grant should (in its sole discretion) a virus, bugs, non-authorized human intervention, fraud or other causes beyond its control corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or proper conduct of the travel grant. In such case, The American Chemical Society may select the recipients from all eligible entries received prior to and/or after (if appropriate) the action taken by The American Chemical Society. The American Chemical Society reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the travel grant or website or violates these Terms & Conditions.

The American Chemical Society has the right, in its sole discretion, to maintain the integrity of the travel grant, to void entries for any reason.

Limitation of Liability: By entering you agree to release and hold harmless The American Chemical Society and its subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, partners, representatives, agents, successors, assigns, employees, officers and directors from any liability, illness, injury, death, loss, litigation, claim or damage that may occur, directly or indirectly, whether caused by negligence or not, from (i) such entrant’s participation in the travel grant and/or his/her acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of any prize or any portion thereof, (ii) technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to the malfunctioning of any computer, cable, network, hardware or software; (iii) the unavailability or inaccessibility of any transmissions or telephone or Internet service; (iv) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the Promotion; (v) electronic or human error which may occur in the administration of the Promotion or the processing of entries.

Disputes: THIS TRAVEL GRANT IS GOVERNED BY THE LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, WITHOUT RESPECT TO CONFLICT OF LAW DOCTRINES. As a condition of participating in this travel grant, participant agrees that any and all disputes which cannot be resolved between the parties, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this travel grant, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, exclusively before a court located in the District of Columbia having jurisdiction. Further, in any such dispute, under no circumstances will participant be permitted to obtain awards for, and hereby waives all rights to claim punitive, incidental, or consequential damages, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, other than participant’s actual out-of-pocket expenses (i.e. costs associated with entering this travel grant), and participant further waives all rights to have damages multiplied or increased.
