Pacifichem 2015 is rapidly approaching, and ACS Publications will be hosting a slew of events centered around the theme of Chemical Networking: Building Bridges Across the Pacific. Mark your calendars for the following activities to help you communicate your science across the globe.

December 15-16: The Evolving Nature of Scholarly Communication: Connecting Scholars with Each Other and with Society (#173)

303A – Hawaii Convention Center, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

There will be two full days plus an evening poster session will cover both the ways in which traditional scholarly communication and journalism has changed, how social media is being adopted to complement the traditional journal article, and the ways in which researchers are seeking to communicate with the general public. With a wide array of speakers participating, including ACS Executive Director and CEO Thomas Connelly, you won’t want to miss it.

December 16: ACS Publications Fast Pitch Event

319A – Hawaii Convention Center, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Gaining direct insight into whether your work is submission-ready is both rare and extremely. Here is your chance to pitch your research to the editors of some of ACS Publications’ newest and highest impact journals. You will have 10 minutes to pitch your latest research and have an editor provide feedback on its potential. Reserve your slot at ACS Publications booth #200 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village starting Tuesday, December 15. A limited number of slots will be available.

December 17: Social Media Workshop for Chemists: Twitter

313A – Hawaii Convention Center, 10:00 am – noon

Part hands-on demonstration, part one-on-one training. If you have ever wanted to be involved in social media but don’t know where to start, or if you want to transition from your local microblogging site to establish a more global presence, come and learn from the experts.

Facilitating the training will be Raychelle Burks (@DrRubidium), Mónica I. Feliú-Mójer (@moefeliu), and Liz Neeley (@LizNeeley).

December 17: Policies and Procedures Regarding Primary Research Data

This morning session will examine the latest developments in research data policies globally, with perspectives from publishers, from funding agencies, and from data repositories.

December 17: ACS Publications Reception

The reception is open to all and will be in celebration of a big announcement from ACS Publications. Beer, wine, cocktails and appetizers will be served. Join us there!

December 17: Chemistry Research Data Interest Group Reception

Waikiki Beach Marriott, Kaimuki 2, 6:00 – 8:00 pm

Anyone interested in publication and access to chemistry research data, please join us for a reception and a short discussion of our Interest Group. The group was formed at the ACS meeting in Denver, and met again at ACS Boston. It is comprised of researchers, librarians, software vendors, funding agencies, with the goal of expanding globally.  This interest group is also seeking to establish a presence in the Research Data Alliance through a Chemistry Data Interest Group that will provide a bridge between wider activities and those taking place within the chemistry community. The group is affiliated with ACS/CINF, RSC, IUPAC, and RDA.
