253rd ACS National Meeting and Exposition in San Francisco

ACS Publications and the Award Committee are excited to announce the recipients of the ACS Publications Travel Grant for Librarians and Library School Students to attend the 253rd ACS National Meeting & Exposition in San Francisco: Kortney Rupp, of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Ian McCullough, of the University of Akron.

Kortney Rupp, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Kortney K. Rupp is a graduate student at the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is currently a Graduate Assistant for the Physical Sciences and Engineering Division and works at Grainger Engineering Library and Information Center. Kortney will complete her MLIS in May 2017 and move to California to start her new position as the Chemical Information Librarian at the University of California, Berkeley in June 2017. Kortney’s academic background includes a Bachelor’s of Arts in Chemistry from Monmouth College and a Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry from Purdue University where she worked under Dr. Shelley A. Claridge. Kortney has won previous awards through the American Chemical Society including the 2011 Undergraduate Award in Analytical Chemistry, the 2012 American Chemical Society Student Leadership Award and the 2013 Women Chemists Committee Overcoming Challenges Award. Kortney is passionate about Chemical Information Literacy and effective data management habits in chemistry research.

Ian McCullough, University of Akron

Ian McCullough is a subject librarian for the physical sciences and interim head of the Science & Technology Library at the University of Akron. Ian provides library instruction services and collection development for the departments of chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science, polymer engineering, geoscience, and physics. He does research on citations, librarian unionization, and physical library space usage. Prior to a career transition into librarianship was a nine-year science career, first as a research technician in a fiber diffraction lab and then lab manager of a departmental equipment research core, both at Vanderbilt University. He has undergraduate degrees in history and biochemistry and master’s degrees in information science and forensic science.

Kortney and Ian will be sharing their experiences from the Spring ACS National Meeting in future ACS Axial articles.
