The Publications Division of the American Chemical Society is pleased to announce the launch of its latest journal ACS Materials Letters. This new letters journal will serve as a forum for high quality and important contributions on the forefront of fundamental and applied research at the interface between materials and other disciplines, including chemistry, biology and engineering and will be dedicated to publishing the most transformative materials research with rapid processing times. Letters that showcase multidisciplinary and innovative materials research addressing global challenges will be especially welcome.

Introducing Bin Liu

Professor Bin Liu, Ph.D. is a leading expert on the development of organic functional materials for energy, environment, and biomedical applications and serves as the Provost’s Chair Professor and head of the department of chemical and biomolecular engineering at National University in Singapore.

When asked to describe the new journal Liu states, “ACS Materials Letters will be the ideal home for rapid publication of urgent letters from original and transformative research at the interface of chemistry, chemical engineering and materials science, covering both fundamentals and applications. We look forward to receiving high-quality manuscripts on all aspects of materials research, especially those bridging multiple disciplines.”

No More Letters?

With the launch of ACS Materials Letters, the editors of Chemistry of Materials and ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces have both decided that each of these journals will no longer publish letters/communications. Each journal will continue considering those that were submitted before January 29 but will be reaching out to authors that submit after that date to ask if they would either resubmit the letter as a full article with an experimental section or have the manuscript transferred to ACS Materials Letters.

Submissions & First Issue

As of today, ACS Materials Letters has begun accepting submissions. ASAP articles will begin appearing online in the coming weeks, and the first issue will debut in July.
