Discover Some of the Chinese Nano Researchers Behind ACS Journals

From August 17-19, 2019, some of the brightest minds in nanoscience will be in Beijing for the 8th International Conference on Nanoscience and Technology, China – commonly known as ChinaNano 2019. ACS Publications will be there, with both ACS Editors and ACS staff on hand to join this important conversion and advance innovation in nanoscience and nanotechnology.

While ACS might stand for American Chemical Society – the truth is that ACS Editors come from all over the world. ACS Editors must be leaders in their disciplines, and many of the leading lights of nanoscience are based in china. Read on to learn about just a handful of the many notable China-based Editors of ACS journals.

Professor Shu Wang: Deputy Editor, ACS Applied Bio Materials

Professor Shu Wang is the Deputy Director of Key Laboratory of Organic Solids at the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he has worked since 2004. His research focuses on the design, synthesis and properties of light-harvesting conjugated polymers, as well as self-assembly biohybrid materials, and organic bioelectronics. Some of his many honors include the Tarrant Visiting Professorship of Organic Chemistry of University of Florida in 2013, the 2nd Ewha Distinguished Lectureship in Chemistry and Nano Science of Ewha Womans University in 2014, and being a Leading Talent in China’s National Ten Thousand Talent Program in 2016. He has published more than 140 articles in ACS journals.

Professor Dongyuan Zhao: Senior Editor, ACS Central Science

Professor Dongyuan Zhao is a professor at Fudan University’s Laboratory of Advanced Materials is the Department of Chemistry, where’s work for more than 20 years. Some of his research focuses include: Macro- and microscopically topological construction of highly ordered porous materials; designed synthesis, assembly, growth and properties of mesoporous materials; structure and synthesis design of novel microporous molecular sieves; rational synthesis and organization of novel patterned nanoscale materials. Some of his many honors include the 2008 TWAS Prize, the 2016 TWAS-Lenovo Science Prize, and the 2018 JCIS Darsh Wasan Award. He has published over 200 articles in ACS journals.

Professor Kui Yu: Executive Editor, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces

Professor Kui Yu is a professor at Sichuan University’s College of Physics, where she’s worked since 2014, after winning the Yangtze River Scholarship. Her research focuses on quantum dots, including the synthesis and characterization of colloidal photoluminescent semi-conductor nano-crystals, aiming at bio-oriented and energy-related applications. Some of her awards include being named to the 2015 1000 Talent of Sichuan Province and Hosting the 2018 13th Sino-US Forum on Nanoscale Science and Technology. She has published over 40 papers in ACS journals.

Professor Hongzheng Chen: Associate Editor, ACS Applied Polymer Materials

Professor Hongzheng Chen is a professor at Zhejiang University’s Department of Polymer Science & Engineering , having previously served at IMEC in Belgium and Stanford University in California. Some of her research focuses include phthalocyanine nanometer materials, photoconductive phthalocyanine polymers, and organic optoelectronic materials. She was a recipient of the Chinese Young Chemistry Award in 2000 and a NSFC Distinguished Young Scholars Grant in 2002.She is the author of more than 30 articles in ACS journals.

Professor Yan Li: Associate Editor, ACS Nano

Professor Yan Li is the Cheung Kong Professor at the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering at Peking University, a position she’s held since 2013. Her research interests include preparation, modification, characterization and application of carbon nanotubes, with a special interest in developing strategies and techniques for controllable preparation, band structure and property modulation, and high-resolution characterization of CNTs, especially aligned single-walled carbon nanotubes on substrates. She is an invited speaker at the William Mong Nano Seminar Series at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Learn more about her work and selected publications.

Professor Guangjun Nie: Associate Editor, Nano Letters

Professor Guangjun Nie is a Principal Investigator at National Center for Nanoscience and Technology in China. He is also currently the Chief Scientist of the MoST National Basic Research Program. His research focuses on nanomedicines and the design of biology-inspired materials to overcome the current barriers in tumor therapy, controlling the chemical properties of multi-functional nanoparticles in order to allow specific targeting and regulation of tumor cells and their microenvironment. He is a CAS 100 Talents Scientist and was named the National Distinguished Youth Scientist award in 2013. He has published over 20 papers in ACS journals.
