Virtual Issue: Applied Water Chemistry

This Virtual Issue on Applied Water Chemistry highlights recent articles on the many roles of water in engineering and the environment.  Water is perhaps the most vital liquid on the planet. The critical role it plays in our daily lives can be seen with the many research articles on its rich chemistry in the environment. These articles describe the latest technologies and molecular insight that are driving us toward more sustainable water use for prevention of water scarcity.

This Virtual Issue encompasses some of the latest research from Environmental Science & Technology, Environmental Science & Technology Letters, ACS Earth and Space Chemistry, and ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering involving water chemistry, as selected by the journals’ Editors. Different types of materials (membranes, polymers, metal-organic frameworks, among others) and mechanisms (e.g. photocatalysis) for removal of pollutants, as well as recovery of useful compounds from wastewater are included. Recent reports on desalination techniques, wastewater treatment, and reuse, and water purification are also contained in this Virtual Issue. Still other articles highlight the interactions of water with Earth’s minerals, as well as the complex role water plays in atmospheric chemistry.
