ChemRxiv was first introduced in August 2017 as the premier preprint server for the global chemistry community. Authors using ChemRxiv can submit their research findings for rapid posting on the web and sharing with scientists and colleagues before formal peer review. The first preprint submitted and posted was Excitonics: A universal set of binary gates for molecular exciton processing and signaling. This preprint went on to be peer-reviewed and published in ACS Nano.

In March 2018, the American Chemical Society, the German Chemical Society, and the Royal Society of Chemistry announced a partnership to manage ChemRxiv collaboratively. In August 2019, the Chinese Chemical Society and the Chemical Society of Japan joined the partnership to broaden ChemRxiv’s thriving global presence as a preprint server driven by the chemistry research community.

ChemRxiv: Highlights from the First Four Years

Today, ChemRxiv features nearly 10,000 preprints from authors in 100 countries that have been viewed and downloaded more than 28 million times. Additionally, almost half of these preprints have been peer-reviewed and published in top journals such as the Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie, Chemical Science, Nature, Science, and more!
