The future of open access funding: seeking sustainable institutional publishing models

As the Open Access publishing movement continues to gain speed and traction around the world, the models that are used to fund publishing activities are evolving to meet rapidly changing funder mandates and the needs of the academic community. Panelists from publishers, universities, institutions and funders will discuss these developments, and share information about new and innovative models that seek to balance support for these activities while creating a sustainable ecosystem for all. This session will provide attendees with new perspectives and innovative ideas which can be applied to their work at research institutions around the world.

ACS Committee on Analytical Reagents: Undergraduate Internship Opportunities

Have you ever used or purchased an ACS Reagent Grade chemical? Have you ever wondered what ACS Reagent Grade means? Come and meet members of the Committee as they highlight their essential work to provide high quality chemicals to labs throughout the world. The Committee develops and publishes specifications and test methods for analytical reagents, which are published in ACS Reagent Chemicals, an online database. The internship program is a partnership between the Committee, students, faculty, and universities. Students gain hands-on experience in method development and validation, while networking with Committee members. Learn how you can get involved – we are looking for students and faculty to join our program!

Professors Chris Jones and Shelley Minteer, Editors in Chief of JACS Au and the ACS Au community journals, lead a panel discussion on the aims of these journals in supporting researchers to publish open access

Part 2: ACS and open science

Sybille Geisenheyner, Director of Open Science Policy at ACS, will overview how ACS is embracing open science through partnerships with institutions, funders and other chemical societies. This will include ‘read + publish’ agreements, non-traditional forms of scientific publishing, and open data.

Join Dr. Ben Mudrak, Senior Product Manager of ChemRxiv, in a panel discussion with Dr. Neil Hammond, Publisher for Open Access Journals at the Royal Society of Chemistry, and Dr. Julia Kalow, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Northwestern University.
