Professor Christy L. Haynes, of the University of Minnesota, will lead the journal starting on January 1, 2027.

The Publications Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS Publications) is pleased to announce that Professor Christy L. Haynes of the University of Minnesota, USA, has been appointed as Editor-in-Chief of Analytical Chemistry.
Analytical Chemistry is a peer-reviewed journal that showcases research that describes new or expanded chemical measurement approaches and those that uniquely address the principles and performance of existing approaches across all branches of analytical chemistry.
The journal’s broad scope includes research that improves our understanding of chemical measurements in the subdisciplines of analytical operations, bioanalytical chemistry, bioengineering, chemical analysis, environmental sciences, forensics, materials science, and medical sciences.
“We are thrilled to welcome Professor Haynes as the next Editor-in-Chief of Analytical Chemistry,” said ACS Publications Senior Vice President and Chief Publishing Officer Sarah Tegen, Ph.D. “Measurement science is fundamental to progress across and beyond chemistry, and Christy understands both the breadth of that research and the community behind it. Her experience with the journal and inclusive vision for the field will help ensure that Analytical Chemistry continues to reflect and shape the leading edge of measurement science.”
Professor Haynes’s tenure as Editor-in-Chief will begin on January 1, 2027, having previously served as an Associate Editor and Executive Editor for the journal. She will succeed Professor Jonathan V. Sweedler, who has led the journal from 2012-2026 and will work closely with her to ensure a successful transition.
“I am delighted by the selection of Christy Haynes as the eighth — and first woman — Editor-in-Chief of Analytical Chemistry in the journal’s nearly 100-year history,” said Professor Sweedler. “During her decade of service as an Associate Editor, she has been an outstanding advocate for our authors and reviewers and a thoughtful leader within the journal. I am confident that under her leadership the journal will continue to thrive, expand its reach, and help shape the future of our discipline.”
Professor Haynes is the Distinguished McKnight University Professor and Department Head at the University of Minnesota in the Department of Chemistry. Her research group is dedicated to applying analytical and nanomaterials chemistry in the context of agriculture, ecology, and toxicology.
Since launching her independent laboratory in 2005, 36 researchers have completed their doctoral degrees in the Haynes Lab, with nine more currently in progress. Her research group is highly collaborative and engages deeply in science outreach and communication efforts.
“Analytical Chemistry has a long and impressive history, and with such a large intellectual scope, I am thrilled to help curate the measurement science that will accelerate progress across the field of chemistry and beyond,” said Professor Haynes.
As Professor Haynes begins her new role, she will build on a decade of editorial experience at Analytical Chemistry.
“When I originally sought an appointment as Associate Editor for Analytical Chemistry, it was because I wanted to be in the room with the brilliant people who influence the leading edge of a field I love,” said Professor Haynes. “It was also because I wanted to be in the conversations that decided what range of work belongs in the journal and who should be included as an analytical chemist.”
