Breath sensors hold great potential for diagnosing diseases, monitoring treatments, and maintaining well-being by detecting changes in volatile biomarkers present in exhaled breath. To drive advances in breath-based diagnostics, the selection of sensor materials, device systems, and data analysis methodologies is of paramount importance; these will significantly influence the sensitivity and selectivity required for detecting minute amounts of biomarkers. Leveraging these systems, materials, and analytic strategies will facilitate the advancement of breath sensors as non-invasive diagnostic technologies.

ACS Sensors is welcoming submissions for a Special Issue addressing all aspects of breath sensing development and applications. Sensing techniques appropriate for this Special Issue include but are not limited to: electrochemical, electrical, and optical methods, while materials can span from zero-dimensional (0D) to three-dimensional (3D) designs.
