Nominate an emerging leader to be invited to submit to our Special Issue showcasing cutting-edge research in biochemistry from early-career researchers in the field. Submit your nomination by June 30, 2026.

Biochemistry is pleased to announce an upcoming “Future of Biochemistry” Special Issue, highlighting exceptional emerging leaders who are advancing the frontiers of biochemical science.
Building on the success of our previous Future of Biochemistry Special Issues published in 2018, 2019, and 2020, which collectively showcased cutting-edge research from more than 100 early-career researchers, this new issue will continue to spotlight innovative work and rising stars across the breadth of the field. These collections have become defining snapshots of the evolving landscape of biochemistry, capturing transformative ideas and establishing a platform for the next generation of scientific leadership. Authors featured in previous Future of Biochemistry special issues have since contributed again to Biochemistry, continuing to shape the landscape of the field.
The nominees selected as future leaders in the field will be invited to submit to Biochemistry. These publications will appear on a rolling basis throughout the year and subsequently be compiled on a dedicated landing page in early 2027, which receives additional promotion through ACS.
Nominations are welcome for researchers working on any topic within the journal's scope.
How to Nominate
We welcome nominations (including self-nominations) to be featured in this Special Issue until June 30, 2026. Nominees must have received their Ph.D. in 2016 or later. Selected nominees will be invited by the editors of Biochemistry to submit a manuscript for consideration in this Special Issue. All submissions will undergo the journal’s standard rigorous peer-review process.
Submission Information
Researchers who are nominated as Future of Biochemistry candidates will be notified by email and invited to submit an article, communication, or methods manuscript to this upcoming special issue. Manuscripts accepted for the Future of Biochemistry special issues will be available ASAP (as soon as publishable) online. After all submissions have been published, they will then be compiled online into a Special Issue. Manuscripts submitted for consideration will undergo a full and rigorous peer review process, as expected from ACS journals.
Invited submissions for this special issue will be open through December 31, 2026. For more information on submission requirements, please visit the journal's Author Guidelines page.
Open Access Information
There are diverse open access options for publications in American Chemical Society journals. Please visit our Open Science Resource Center for more information. Biochemistry follows a hybrid publishing model, which includes a combination of subscription access and open access research articles. Please note that Biochemistry will not be able to subsidize any article processing charges (APCs) incurred during publication. If your institutional open access agreement includes publishing support in hybrid journals, your institution may choose to cover up to 100% of immediate open access APCs when your article is accepted for publication.
