Call for Papers: Focus on Peptides: Synthesis, Characterization, and Applications

Since its emergence in the early 20^th century, peptide science has been growing unabated and has become increasingly important in therapeutics, biotechnology, and advanced materials. Rapid advances in discovery and design of new peptides, synthetic strategies, analytical instrumentation, and validation techniques have enabled rigorous characterization of increasingly complex peptide systems and their conjugates.

ACS Omega invites researchers to contribute to a Special Issue focused on modern approaches to peptide synthesis, purification, characterization, and quality control needed for therapeutic applications. Emphasis will be placed on innovations that improve efficiency, scalability, and analytical precision across both research and industrial settings, as well as the new opportunities these advances create for peptide-based applications.

Topics include, but are not limited to:

• Solid-phase, solution-phase, and automated peptide synthesis
• Strategies for long-sequence and difficult peptide synthesis
• Large-scale and industrial peptide manufacturing and purification
• Methodologies including protecting groups and orthogonal protection strategies
• Green and sustainable approaches in peptide synthesis
• Peptide structure determination (NMR, mass spectra etc.) and analysis
• Peptide functionalization and conjugation techniques
• Analytical validation, quality control, and impurity profiling
• Emerging applications of peptides in therapeutics, materials, biotechnology, etc.

Submission Information

We welcome submissions for this Special Issue through April 30, 2027. For more information on submission requirements, please review the journal’s Author Guidelines.

Manuscript types considered for this Special Issue will include research articles, reviews, and perspectives. All submissions will undergo the full, rigorous peer review process expected from ACS journals. Papers accepted for publication in this Special Issue will be available online ASAP (as soon as publishable). Once all accepted papers are published, they will be compiled on a dedicated landing page to form the Special Issue.
