ACS Synthetic Biology has long supported the International Workshop on Bio-Design Automation (IWBDA), and the journal is excited to open this year's call for papers to all synthetic biologists who are focused on facilitating the implementation and adoption of bio-design automation principles.

This Special Issue seeks to showcase researchers who are tackling issues through biotechnological innovations, and the ways in which automations can dissolve research barriers, and open previously unreachable avenues of investigation.

Submissions to this Special Issue should be clearly focused on the nexus of synthetic biology, systems biology, and design automation communities.

Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Design Build Test Case studies
  • Synthetic Biology education and outreach
  • Biosecurity in lab automation processes
  • Computer aided design tools and automation for engineering biology
  • Standardization of biological components
  • Biofoundries and their impact on synthetic biology
