A new Virtual Special Issue from ACS Synthetic Biology will focus on this dynamic topic, including contributions that develop and apply quantitative approaches for synthetic biology applications.
The bottom-up engineering approach of synthetic biology enables the construction of synthetic biological systems to test the predictions of life phenomena using quantitative biology, leading to new understanding. In turn, the concepts and practices of quantitative biology can help the rational design of synthetic living organisms, addressing major challenges facing human society. The cross-fertilization of quantitative biology and synthetic biology has led to the exciting interdisciplinary area of “quantitative synthetic biology,” which holds the promise to transform biological sciences from qualitative/descriptive studies to quantitative/predictive research.
