This Special Issue will highlight the latest advancements and perspectives in the chemical biology of lipids and lipidation. Submit your manuscript by December 31, 2024.

Lipids support cellular physiology at the structural and functional levels across all kingdoms of life. These hydrophobic metabolites act both as free molecules, often within cellular membranes, and as covalent conjugates to other macromolecules in a process termed lipidation. With this special issue, we aim to bring together researchers from across these disciplines to share their knowledge and their latest advances.

We are pleased to announce that ACS Chemical Biology will publish a Virtual Special Issue (VSI) titled “Lipids and Lipidation.” This VSI aims to highlight the latest advancements and perspectives in this field, focusing on how chemical approaches are uniquely positioned to elucidate fundamental cellular mechanisms and target factors involved in lipidation, lipid metabolism, and lipid signaling that underlie disease.

In the Lipids and Lipidation VSI, we welcome papers focused on the chemical biology of lipids and lipidation, including but not necessarily limited to the following topics:

  • Imaging probes for visualization of lipids and lipidation
  • Chemoproteomics approaches for lipidation and non-covalent lipid–protein interactions
  • Regulation of writers, erasers, and readers of lipidation
  • Molecular mechanisms underlying lipid metabolism, transport, and signaling
  • Therapeutic targeting of machinery involved in lipid metabolism and lipidation
  • Biochemical or structural studies of how lipids and lipidation regulate biomolecule function

Submission Information

We welcome submissions for this VSI through December 31, 2024. For more information on submission requirements, please visit the journal’s Author Guidelines page.

Accepted manuscripts for consideration in this VSI will include research articles and perspectives. Papers accepted for publication will be available ASAP (as soon as publishable) online as soon as they are accepted. After all submissions have been published, they will then be compiled online on a dedicated landing page to form the Special Issue. Manuscripts submitted for consideration will undergo the full rigorous peer review process expected from ACS journals.

How to Submit

  • Log in to the ACS Publishing Center.
  • Select the “Journals” tab.
  • Search for ACS Chemical Biology.
  • Click "Submit."
  • Select your manuscript type, and, under "Special Issue Selection," choose “Lipids and Lipidation."

If you have any general questions regarding submission to this Special Issue, please contact Amy Southall (managing.editor@chembio.acs.org).
