This Special Issue aims to engage and inform both the academic and industrial sectors of the engineering community with high-quality content focusing on fundamental and applied breakthroughs in engineering powered by machine learning and artificial intelligence. Submit your manuscript by November 1, 2025.

This Special Issue aims to engage and inform the engineering community with high-quality content focusing on fundamental and applied breakthroughs powered by machine learning and artificial intelligence, development of hybrid methodologies (i.e., combining fundamental and ML modeling), and understanding the specifics of applying machine learning to ChemE systems, all broadly applied to the areas of:
- Thermodynamics
- Kinetics & Molecular Scale
- Reactors
- Plant-Level Systems (e.g. data reconciliation, etc.)
ACS Engineering Au is a gold open access journal publishing outstanding work from across the breadth of chemical engineering. ACS Engineering Au is part of the ACS Au suite of journals, launched in 2021, which meet the needs of researchers who choose to or are required by their funders to publish their work in a fully open access journal. This journal is Plan S compliant and indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals.
Submissions can be Research Articles, Reviews, or Perspectives and must comply with the Scope of ACS Engineering Au as defined in the About the Journal Page and Author Guidelines. Each submission will be peer-reviewed in the usual manner. Upon acceptance, the paper will be published on a rolling basis in a regular issue of ACS Engineering Au with a label that it is a part of the Special Issue. Once all invited articles have appeared online, they will be collected into a Special Issue and promoted all together to provide the authors additional exposure.
