ACS Photonics, in partnership with the 8th International Conference on Metamaterials, Photonic Crystals and Plasmonics (META’17), is pleased to announce that Professor Dirk R. Englund, Jamieson Career Development Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will receive the 2017 ACS Photonics Young Investigator Award Lectureship. Prof. Englund joined the faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2013. Prof. Englund leads an outstanding group of scientists in the Quantum Photonics Laboratory. His research focuses on using quantum states to spur improvements in communications, computation, and measurement. His lab is currently working on developing quantum simulators using scalable silicon photonic circuits and high-performance quantum memories based on electron spins in diamond color centers, as well as high-speed quantum key distribution, and applications in opto-electronic devices for classical information processing.
Prof. Englund was selected in recognition of his extraordinary research record, which has been central to understanding and developing quantum information processes and communication. Particularly, Prof. Englund is recognized by his peers for his many contributions to scalable solid-state quantum memories in nitrogen-vacancy (NV) diamond, high-dimensional quantum key distribution (QKD), photonic integrated circuits for quantum communication and computation, NV-diamond systems for precision measurements, and on pushing graphene photodetectors toward single-photon sensitivity.
Prof. Englund will be honored during a plenary session at META’17, the 8th International Conference on Metamaterials, Photonic Crystals and Plasmonics, held July 25-28, 2017, in Incheon, South Korea.
