Single-electron reactions—also referred to as radical or open-shell reactions—play a vital role in a wide range of chemical and biological processes. This Special Issue will explore recent breakthroughs and applications. Submit your manuscript by February 28, 2026.

Single-electron reactions—also referred to as radical or open-shell reactions—play a vital role in a wide range of chemical and biological processes. These transformations enable distinct reactivity pathways that diverge significantly from conventional two-electron mechanisms, offering unique opportunities for minimizing synthetic routes and maximizing synthetic efficiency.
Recent advances in catalysis, including photoredox catalysis, organocatalysis, transition metal catalysis, and biocatalysis, as well as in synthetic methodologies such as electrosynthesis, mechanochemistry, and photochemical synthesis, have opened new avenues for accessing and controlling these single-electron pathways with unprecedented precision.
In response to the growing interest and rapid advancements in this field, this Special Issue, to be published in Precision Chemistry, will highlight contributions that explore new reactivity paradigms, catalytic strategies, mechanistic insights, and enabling technologies. The topics of interest include:
- Single-electron reactions controlled by organo-, transition metal, and biocatalysis
- Thermal, photochemical, electrochemical, and mechanochemical single-electron reactions
- Synthetic transformations that proceed through single-electron transfer (SET), hydrogen atom transfer (HAT), and halogen atom transfer (XAT)

Submission Information
Manuscripts accepted for inclusion in this Special Issue will be highlighted as a significant contribution to this expanding field. If accepted, publications will go online as soon as possible with a DOI, and will be published in one of the next available issues. Publications on this topic will be assembled into a Special Issue and widely promoted.
Submissions are welcome through February 28, 2026. All articles will be peer reviewed prior to acceptance to ensure they fit the scope of the Special Issue and meet the high scientific publishing standards of Precision Chemistry. The peer review process for all papers will be managed by the journal editors to ensure rigor is maintained.
Precision Chemistry is an open access journal. The Article Publishing Charges are waived for the submissions before December 31, 2025.
