Are you currently getting ready for a big chemistry job interview that could take your career to the next level? ACS wants to help you out by providing some valuable tips on how to do well in your next chemistry job interview!

You know what they say: “You only get one chance at a first impression.” So let’s start with the first thing that you have to do in the morning … getting dressed! You’ll need to look the part if you want to perform well and be confident during your interview. What are you going to wear to your important chemistry job interview? What outfit will help you land your chemistry dream job?

In order to look your most presentable and professional, it is always a good idea to wear a suit when interviewing for a job. Make sure your suit fits you properly. Get your outfit tailored if you have to. You don’t want to appear unprofessional by wearing clothes that are too tight or too baggy! Be sure to accent your suit with a tie or an appropriate piece of jewelry.

In addition to being well dressed, you should be rested, alert, and well prepared for this important chemistry job interview with a potential employer. Check out these “Do’s and Don’ts” for a chemistry job interview.

Follow these tips to ensure you look and act presentable during your chemistry job interview:

Do:

  • Research the company you’re interviewing with.
  • Smile and use positive body language.
  • Send a follow-up thank you note addressed to your interviewer(s).

Don’t:

  • Be late.
  • Bring your cell phone into the interview room (unless you’re sure the device is in silent mode.)
  • Slouch.
