The Publications Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is proud to announce the launch of ACS Electrochemistry, a peer-reviewed, hybrid journal that will begin accepting submissions next month with a focus on the fundamental and applied aspects of electrochemical science. The journal will be led by Professor Patrick Unwin, FRS, Head of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Warwick, UK, as its inaugural Editor-in-Chief.

ACS Electrochemistry will publish significant advances in this field and serve as a venue for research from this scientific community. Electrochemical science is experiencing tremendous growth and enables exciting advancements like the development of lithium-ion batteries, which was recognized by the 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

“We’re excited to establish ACS Electrochemistry as a home for all aspects of electrochemical research,” said ACS Publications Senior Vice President and Chief Publishing Officer Sarah Tegen, Ph.D. “This new journal expands our portfolio to meet a growing need for the publication of this area of research and helps us continue to serve as a trusted partner to the scientific community.”
“The electrochemical landscape is vast and there is an outstanding opportunity and need to bring together separate chemical and scientific disciplines where electrochemistry is central,” said Professor Unwin. “The introduction of ACS Electrochemistry recognizes the breadth of electrochemistry and its enabling role within the chemical and related sciences, and I’m excited to lead this journal to excellence.”

Professor Unwin has played a significant leadership role in electrochemistry for more than three decades and is widely recognized as a leading inventor of ground-breaking instrumental electrochemical techniques. He earned his DPhil degree in Physical Chemistry from the University of Oxford. He established the Warwick Electrochemistry & Interfaces Group at the University of Warwick, where he currently serves as Head of the Department of Chemistry and Professor of Chemistry. He was recently elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society.

The new journal will begin accepting submissions in June of 2024 and will publish its first issue in January of 2025. It will publish original, peer-reviewed research in the form of articles, communications, reviews, perspectives, tutorials, and technical notes. Learn more about ACS Electrochemistry.
