Advances in material science and engineering have been pivotal in developing many environmentally relevant research areas. Over the past few decades, numerous publications on advanced material-based environmental applications, including, but not limited to, capacitive electrochemical deionization, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), (electro)chemical reduction, microbial fuel cells (MFCs), membrane separation, heterogeneous catalysis, electrochemical reactors, environmental sensors, oil/water separation, adsorption, among others, have been featured in the pages of our journals. These interdisciplinary publications showcase the most innovative and impactful research produced by environmental and/or materials scientists and engineers worldwide, highlighting the groundbreaking work of our ever-growing global community.

For this Special Issue on “Materials Science and Environmental Applicability,” we seek contributions on novel and advanced material-based studies that demonstrate their great potential to address practical environmental problems, inspire greener and better materials design, or reveal in-depth mechanisms to enable advanced explorations.
