This Special Issue focuses on recent advances in understanding the environmental chemistry challenges facing the Latin American region and the scientific, technological, and indigenous solutions being developed in this region for long-term environmental sustainability. Submit your manuscript by February 9, 2027.

Latin America has some of the most diverse flora and fauna in the world with many countries in the region considered the most megadiverse globally. Its natural landscapes create diverse environments that breed terrestrial, aquatic, and marine wildlife. The region is also an important food producer for the world. This in turn has led to increasing pressure on land use change to satisfy agricultural needs and to sustain a growing economy. Accompanying environmental challenges include deforestation, soil erosion, biodiversity and ecosystems services loss, water pollution, water scarcity, and significant impacts on climate change.
In efforts to protect and sustain this unique natural environment, researchers from this region and their respective governments have made important strides in identifying the environmental challenges facing the region and developing scientific, technological, and indigenous solutions for improvement to ensure theses critical environmental resources are protected and managed sustainably. This Special Issue Call for Papers in Environmental Science & Technology (ES&T) seeks contributions on the latest understanding of the environmental chemistry challenges facing the Latin America region as well as innovative solutions to address them.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Emerging contaminants in Terrestrial, Aquatic, and Marine Systems
- Ecotoxicity and Public Health challenges
- Occurrence, Fate, and Behavior of Contaminants in Indoor Air and Atmosphere
- Climate change
- Physico-Chemical Treatment and Resource Recovery
- Biogeochemical Cycling
- Bioremediation and Biotechnology
- Sustainable Systems
- Data Science
Submission to this series should be novel and seek to fill the knowledge gaps based on existing literature. ES&T is highlighting Latin American voices and this should be apparent in the submissions. We hope research from this region continues to be disseminated as it is a deeply important facet to sustaining the global environment and in turn creating meaningful changes to improve the world.
Submit your manuscript by February 9, 2027.
