Following the success of our inaugural Emerging Investigators in Materials Science Special Issue in 2025, ACS Materials Letters is seeking submissions to our second iteration, "Emerging Investigators in Materials Science 2027," which aims to continue showcasing the work of outstanding early career researchers from all over the globe. Both fundamental and applied work across all areas of materials science will be considered, which spans the entire scope of the journal.

Eligibility
We welcome submissions from early career faculty (or equivalent) working in academia, industry, at National Laboratories, or at research institutions who are 12 years or fewer since starting their first independent research position. Postdoctoral researchers are unfortunately not eligible.
Prospective authors are asked to confirm they hold an independent faculty position and have not done so for longer than 12 years in their cover letter at the point of submission.
Submission Information
We welcome submissions for this Special Issue through December 31, 2026. For more information on submission requirements, please visit the journal’s Author Guidelines page.
Accepted manuscripts for consideration in this Special Issue will include Letters, Perspectives, Reviews, and Viewpoints. Papers accepted for publication for this Special Issue will be available ASAP (as soon as publishable) online. After all submissions have been published, they will then be compiled online on a dedicated landing page to form the Special Issue. Manuscripts submitted for consideration will undergo the full rigorous peer review process expected from ACS journals.

How to Submit
- Log in to the ACS Publishing Center.
- Select the "Journals" tab.
- Choose ACS Materials Letters.
- Click "Submit."
- Select your manuscript type, and, under "Special Issue Selection," choose “Emerging Investigators in Materials Science 2027."
