Call for Papers: Zeolite Crystal Engineering

Zeolites have been the most important industrial adsorbents and catalysts in the energy and petrochemicals sector and have had rapid growth in innovative applications in new energies and advanced functional materials. The production of zeolites has undeniably reached an industrial maturity, and despite considerable research efforts focused on these materials during the last decades, understanding the mechanisms governing their synthesis remains a major challenge. Consequently, the fine control of their properties and discoveries of new materials often rely on empirical trial-and-error screening rather than through fundamental scientific directions, which poses a bottleneck for the efficient development of new materials and next-generation products.

This Virtual Special Issue of Crystal Growth & Design aims to bring together the latest developments in the design, synthesis, and application of zeolites attracting contributions from the leading researchers in this field.

Topics in this special issue will primarily include, but are not limited to:

  • Zeolite formation mechanisms
  • Designs for state-of-the art materials (e.g. nano-sized or hierarchical materials with unique functionality)
  • Structure-property-performance relationships for novel materials
  • New structures and/or established relationships between synthesis conditions and physicochemical properties
  • Zeolite size and morphology control
  • Post-synthetic methods of zeolite design
