Digital illustration of two nanocrystals

Innovations in nanocrystal design and synthesis have had a significant impact on a multitude of technological applications, including semiconductor electronics, photovoltaics, photoemission, lasing, thermoelectrics, batteries, and magnetics. After 40 years of effort in synthesizing nanocrystals, we can now see results: the formation of nanocrystals with precisely controlled dimensions, composition, and surface termination and, therefore physical and chemical properties.

These findings have enabled greater understanding of nanocrystals of diverse elemental compositions e.g., binary II-VI, IV-VI or III-V nanocrystal compositions, I-III-VI ternary nanocrystals, I-II-IV-VI quaternary nanocrystals, and perovskite nanocrystals. The technological success of all these different nanocrystal families is underpinned by the vast ongoing research on their structure-property relationship. This research area is interdisciplinary and brings together experimental and computational chemists, physicists, microscopists, and spectroscopists.

This Virtual Special Issue of Crystal Growth & Design, "Structure-Property Interplay in Nanocrystals," seeks to highlight the structure-property relationships in nanocrystals. Topics covered can include, but are not limited to:

  • Synthesis and assembly of nanocrystals
  • 0D, 1D, and 2D nanostructures
  • Surface chemistry of nanocrystals
  • Spectroscopy and microscopy studies
  • Optoelectronic and thermoelectric properties
  • Application in energy conversion and storage

The submission deadline is December 10th, 2023.

Author Instructions

To submit your manuscript, visit the Crystal Growth & Design website. Please follow the procedures for manuscript submission and, in the ACS Paragon Plus submission site, select the special issue “Structure-Property Interplay in Nanocrystals.” All manuscripts will undergo rigorous editorial peer review. Articles are published on a rolling basis in an issue of Crystal Growth & Design. Once the Special Issue is complete, all articles will be publicized as a virtual collection, which will provide additional exposure for the work. For additional submission instructions, please see the Crystal Growth & Design Author Guidelines.
