This Special Issue seeks to showcase ways in which mass spectrometry-based techniques can be applied to explore the cellular lipidome. Submit your manuscript by June 30, 2027.

Journal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (JASMS) is welcoming submissions for an upcoming Special Issue on Recent Advances in Lipids and Lipidomics by MS, to coincide with the ASMS 2027 Winter Conference of the same theme.
Building on the conference’s exploration of cutting-edge mass spectrometry for lipid analysis, this Special Issue will highlight advances that expand the depth, scale, and impact of lipid and lipidomics research. We invite original articles describing innovative instrumentation, analytical methods, informatics, and applications that improve lipid identification, quantification, structural characterization, and spatial or metabolic analysis, with particular interest in work that connects technological innovation to important biological, environmental, clinical, or pharmaceutical questions.
For readers, this Special Issue will be an easily identifiable source of high-quality papers describing advances in lipidomics using MS. For authors, the Special Issue will provide a venue of increased visibility for their work.
Submissions may address, but are not limited to, the following focus areas:
- Advances in mass spectrometry instrumentation for lipid analysis
- GC-MS, LC-MS, direct-infusion, and imaging mass spectrometry workflows
- Ion mobility, tandem mass spectrometry, and gas-phase ion chemistry
- Improved lipid identification, quantification, structural elucidation, and limits of detection
- Computational lipidomics, informatics, and multi-omics data integration
- Lipid metabolism and molecular pathology
- Environmental, clinical, and pharmaceutical applications of lipidomics
- Emerging methods that increase throughput, coverage, reproducibility, or biological insight
