ACS Infectious Diseases in opening submissions for a Special Issue on “Infectious Diseases Research in the Global South: Treatments and Treatment Failures.” We invite submissions of articles, letters, and reviews (viewpoints and perspectives by invitation only) from infectious diseases researchers located in the countries of the Global South. Submissions are welcome for this Special Issue through June 15, 2025.

The Global South, which refers to the countries of South and Southeast Asia, Africa, and Central and South America, is a high priority region of focus when it comes to identifying new prevention and treatment strategies for emerging pathogens. The goal of this Special Issue is to highlight the work of researchers working across disciplines of chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, and immunology in the Global South with a common goal of decreasing the costly burden of infection-related diseases in this area.   • Drug discovery pipelines
  • Antimicrobial resistance mechanisms
  • Vaccines
  • Antimicrobial biomaterials
  • Host-directed therapeutic/preventative strategies

We welcome submissions for this Special Issue through June 15, 2025. For more information on submission requirements, please visit the journal’s Author Guidelines page.

Accepted manuscripts for consideration in this Special Issue will include research articles, letters, and reviews. Perspectives and viewpoints may also be submitted upon invitation. Papers accepted for publication for this Special Issue will be available online ASAP (as soon as publishable). After all submissions have been published, they will then be compiled on a dedicated landing page to form the Special Issue. Manuscripts submitted for consideration will undergo the full rigorous peer review process expected from ACS journals.

How to Submit

  • Log in to the ACS Publishing Center.
  • Select the “Journals” tab.
  • Choose ACS Infectious Diseases.
  • Click "Submit."
  • Select your manuscript type, and, under "Special Issue Selection," choose “Infectious Diseases Research in the Global South: Treatments and Treatment Failures."
