This Special Issue showcases cutting‑edge discoveries in nontuberculous mycobacterial pathogens through biology, infection, and therapeutic innovation. Submit your manuscript by June 30, 2026.

Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infections have risen steadily in recent years, in some regions surpassing the incidence of new tuberculosis cases and posing an increasingly urgent public health challenge. Species such as Mycobacterium abscessus exhibit extensive intrinsic and acquired antimicrobial resistance, rendering many antibiotic classes ineffective and contributing to persistently low cure rates, chronic disease, and significant mortality. As global NTM prevalence continues to climb, deeper insights into NTM physiology, cell wall biology, host–pathogen interactions, immune responses, and mechanisms of drug resistance are essential to guide the development of innovative therapies, diagnostics, and preventive strategies.

In recognition of this growing threat, ACS Infectious Diseases presents a Special Issue devoted to advancing fundamental and translational research on NTM biology, infection, and treatment, providing a platform for cutting‑edge discoveries that will help shape the next generation of interventions against these resilient pathogens. Read the Call for Papers Editorial to learn more.

Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • NTM physiology
  • NTM cell wall biology
  • Host–pathogen interactions and virulence
  • Host immunity
  • Drug resistance mechanisms
  • Drug discovery
  • Anti-NTM drug delivery systems
  • NTM treatments and diagnostic markers
  • Vaccines

Submit your manuscript by June 30, 2026.
