Observed annually on December 1, World AIDS Day is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and supporting ongoing efforts to combat the disease.

With an estimated 40.8 million people living with HIV globally and 630,000 deaths reported annually, HIV remains a major global health challenge. Research continues to focus on advancing prevention, treatment, and ultimately, a cure.
To mark this year’s World AIDS Day, ACS Publications is partnering with the ACS Webinars team and the Science History Institute to host a FREE webinar on Monday, December 1, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:15 PM (ET). This event will feature leading researchers discussing the history of HIV, recent breakthroughs, and the challenges that remain.
Paul Volberding from University of California San Francisco will explore the evolution of HIV treatment guidelines. And Moupali Das from Gilead Sciences will present on Lenacapavir, an injectable drug approved by the FDA in 2022 for multi-drug-resistant HIV, which demonstrated high effectiveness in 2024 clinical trials. This webinar is moderated by Cheng Fang from Annovis Bio.
