Led by founding Editor-in-Chief Xiaoyuan (Shawn) Chen, Ph.D., ACS Nano Medicine will publish significant research breakthroughs in the application of nanoscience and nanotechnology to clinical diagnosis and therapeutics.

The Publications Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is proud to announce the launch of ACS Nano Medicine, a peer-reviewed hybrid journal that will publish significant research breakthroughs in the application of nanoscience and nanotechnology to clinical diagnosis and therapeutics.
The journal will be led by its inaugural Editor-in-Chief, Xiaoyuan (Shawn) Chen, Ph.D., the Nasrat Muzayyin Chair Professor in Medicine and Technology at the National University of Singapore.
ACS Nano Medicine will publish fundamental, applied, experimental, and theoretical aspects of research at the intersection of nanoscience, medicine, biology, chemistry, and materials.
“We’re thrilled to present ACS Nano Medicine as a home for nanomedicine researchers offering tremendous potential to advance clinical diagnosis and therapy,” said ACS Publications Senior Vice President and Chief Publishing Officer Sarah Tegen, Ph.D. “Professor Chen is a foundational researcher and a proven leader with great experience building a new journal community, and we’re excited to have him on board as founding Editor-in-Chief.”
Professor Chen was the founding editor of the journal Theranostics, and he has published over 1100 papers, as well as numerous books. His research is largely focused on the development of theranostics that can be clinically translatable.
“As the founding editor, I consider it both a privilege and a responsibility to guide ACS Nano Medicine towards becoming a leading platform for advancing nanomedicine research and further establishing ACS's leadership in this field,” said Professor Chen. “ACS Nano Medicine will provide a platform for innovative ideas and various perspectives, and the broad scope of the journal will attract a diverse audience, including those in academia, industry, and clinical practice.”

Professor Chen earned his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from University of Idaho, USA, and his B.S. and M.A. degrees from Nanjing University, China. He is also the Past President of the Chinese American Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (CASNMMI), the Radiopharmaceutical Science Council (RPSC), the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI), and the Chinese American Society of Nanomedicine and Nanobiotechnology (CASNN).
ACS Nano Medicine will begin accepting submissions in June 2025 and will publish its first issue in January 2026. The journal will publish original, peer-reviewed research in the form of articles, reviews, perspectives, viewpoints, and editorials.
