In 2015 Nano Letters started the Early Career Board in order to develop a channel for hearing from the early career scientists who are the future of our field. Early career scientists important perspectives to share about their experiences of scientific publication as discoverers, authors, and peer reviewers and their ideas concerning the many changes going on in scientific publication. Since then we have enjoyed all the great ideas and feedback we have received from the Early Career Board.
Since the beginning of the Early Career Board our members have suggested tweets for the Nano Letters Twitter feed and wrote ACS Axial posts about their experiences as scientists. In addition to these the Early Career Board has started putting together a series of virtual issues on topics in nanoscience and nanotechnology. With the initiation of this series of virtual issues we would like to open up nominations for the new members of the Early Career Board. Nominations, including CV, publication list, and letter(s) of recommendation should be sent electronically to Managing Editor Dr. Laura Fernandez, by January 15th, 2017. Results will be announced by February 2018. Here is a reminder of what we look for:
- Authorship in Nano Letters of papers that show the promise of the candidate to contribute to nanoscience;
- Open to graduate students, postdocs, and early career faculty in their first three years as an Assistant Professor or similar position in industry or national laboratories;
- We look for candidates from diverse backgrounds and from around the world;
- We look for candidates from industry, start-ups and national laboratories, as well as from academia;
- We look for candidates who are good at using social media and who are interested in applying those skills to help Nano Letters;
- The term of the members of this Board is determined by the completion of an ACS Axial post and the completion of at least one virtual issue, where the editorial is written by the board members and published in Nano Letters.
