The Publications Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS Publications) is pleased to announce that Margaret Faul, Ph.D., Vice President of Drug Substance Technologies at Amgen, has been appointed as Editor-in-Chief of Organic Process Research & Development (OPR&D).

OPR&D serves as an essential communication tool between industrial chemists and chemists working in universities and research institutes. As such the journal reports original work from the broad field of industrial process chemistry and chemical engineering but also presents academic results that are relevant to industrial applications.

On January 1, 2025, Dr. Faul took leadership of OPR&D following the successful tenure of Kai Rossen, Ph.D., who had served as Editor-in-Chief since 2015.

“I am committed to advancing the field of process chemistry, ensuring that it continues to thrive in a rapidly changing scientific landscape,” said Dr. Faul. “As Editor-in-Chief, I will seek to advance OPR&D’s impact, elevate its influence, and inspire the next generation of chemists.”

In addition to being a Fellow of the American Chemical Society, Dr. Faul has been an Associate Editor for Organic Letters and served on the editorial board for many journals. She also has a strong external scientific presence, with over 100 articles published in peer reviewed journals.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Faul as Editor-in-Chief and excited about her vision for OPR&D,” said ACS Publications Senior Vice President and Chief Publishing Officer Sarah Tegen, Ph.D. “We look forward to working with her to elevate the journal and strengthen this point of connection between industrial and academic chemists.”

Since joining Amgen in 2003, Dr. Faul has held numerous positions of increasing responsibility and supported the advancement of the Amgen portfolio from clinical through to commercial development and been instrumental in the integration of innovative technologies into the manufacturing network. She also helped foster a green and sustainable workplace culture at Amgen, which was recognized with a Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award for the company.
