This Special Issue of OPR&D will highlight advances in design, synthesis, purification, and manufacturing strategies that translate molecular complexity into process reliability. Submit your manuscript by September 30, 2026.
Peptides and oligonucleotides are redefining the therapeutic landscape — occupying the molecular space between traditional small molecules and biologics. As these complex modalities have already moved from discovery to commercial reality, process innovation has become the decisive enabler of scalability, quality, and speed to market.
By bringing together industrial and academic perspectives, this issue aims to define the state of the art in process science for peptides and oligonucleotides — the emerging cornerstone of next-generation therapeutics. To give you a taste of what we are looking for, we have published a collection of recent OPR&D articles that are within the scope of this Special Issue.
Submitted manuscripts should focus on the following areas:
Novel synthetic, enzymatic or hybrid process approaches for peptides and oligos
- Integrated chemical–biotechnological workflows and automation
- Scalable purification and analytical strategies tailored for sequence-defined molecules
- Case studies demonstrating technology transfer or regulatory strategies in these modalities
- Cross-disciplinary innovations bridging chemistry, biology, and process engineering

Submission Information
We welcome submissions for this Special Issue through September 30, 2026. For more information on submission requirements, please visit the Information for Authors page for OPR&D.
Accepted manuscripts for consideration in this Special Issue can be submitted in several forms: Article (full research papers), Perspective, Review, or a Communication/Technical Note within our Call for Short Papers. Papers accepted for publication for this Special Issue will be available ASAP (as soon as publishable) online as soon as they are accepted. After all submissions have been published, they will then be compiled online on a dedicated landing page to form the Special Issue. Manuscripts submitted for consideration will undergo the full rigorous peer review process expected from ACS journals.

How to Submit
- Log in to the ACS Publishing Center.
- Select the "Journals" tab.
- Choose Organic Process Research & Development.
- Click "Submit."
- Select your manuscript type, and, under "Special Issue Selection," choose “Advances in Manufacturing and Process Development for Oligonucleotides and Peptides."
