The purpose of the campaign is to recognize organometallic chemists who are influential in the field, have an admirable story, or have taken an unusual career path.

A Profile of Professor Jay Kochi

The breadth of impactful work leaves no question that Professor Jay Kochi remains a Pioneer and Influencer in organometallic chemistry and mechanistic homogeneous catalysis. The impact of his interests in the role of radicals in transition-metal catalysis extends far beyond iron-catalyzed cross-coupling. The explosion of “metallophotoredox catalysis” and modern nickel-catalyzed cross-couplings also trace their origins to the work of Kochi.

Chemistry Olympian Kuo-Wei Huang

A former Chemistry Olympian from Taiwan, who is paying forward his successes by fostering the passion for chemistry in Saudi Arabian youths. Several members of the Saudi team are now pursuing higher education in chemical research all over the world—two of them are on their way to becoming organometallic chemists in Huang’s laboratory.

Dr. Patricia Watson and the Molecular Dance of M–C and C–H Bonds

In addition to being one of the few female organometallic chemists of her generation, Tricia has also made extraordinary discoveries that are at the heart of hydrocarbon activation and proposed a mechanism for a degenerate and nondegenerate C–H bond activation reaction based on careful mechanistic studies, which were not trivial to conduct or analyze. Likewise, her chemistry inspired and influenced (and still does) some of the most prominent and contemporary organometallic chemists of her time.
