This Special Issue will highlight frontier areas in ultrafast optical methods toward light-energy conversion. Submit your manuscript by October 31, 2025.

A translucent, cube-shaped object rests on a gradient blue and purple background, reflecting light in various hues.

With the increased focus on discovering new light harvesting materials that will provide transformative solutions to global energy and health problems, it becomes imperative to conduct research in the frontier areas of light-energy conversion. One of the crucial aspects of the structure-function relations of these new materials is how structure gives rise to dynamics, which are beneficial for potential applications. An understanding of functional dynamics in material systems can be advanced by exploiting the methods of ultrafast spectroscopy and spectroscopic imaging.

The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters is opening submissions for a new special issue that highlights the usage of ultrafast optical methods to elucidate timescales, reaction coordinates, as well as transient structures that drive function.

Research papers are invited that highlight the power of measuring dynamics in novel light harvesting materials of all kinds, including:

  • Molecular materials
  • Nanomaterials of various kinds
  • Extended inorganic solids
  • Topological materials
