This Special Issue seeks to showcase pioneering research that delves into innovative chemical recycling processes and advanced circular polymeric materials. Submit your manuscript by July 31, 2025.

Multiple round trays filled with small, uniformly shaped pellets are arranged in rows under a green and blue lighting.

Polymer recycling plays a critical role in building a sustainable future by addressing one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time—plastic waste. Polymers, which are essential in various industries due to their versatility, durability, and cost-effectiveness, contribute significantly to global waste when not managed responsibly. Recycling these materials reduces the need for virgin plastic production, conserving finite natural resources such as petroleum and lowering greenhouse gas emissions associated with manufacturing processes. Moreover, effective polymer recycling minimizes environmental pollution, protects ecosystems, and supports the transition to a circular plastic economy where materials are reused rather than discarded.

Establishing an efficient circular plastics economy relies on the precise chemistry involved in the formation and breakdown of chemical bonds within polymers. This Special Issue, to be featured in Precision Chemistry, seeks to showcase pioneering research that delves into innovative chemical recycling processes and advanced circular polymeric materials.

We invite contributions that focus on, but are not limited to:

  • Chemical depolymerization into monomers
  • Upcycling into valuable chemicals
  • New polymers designed for chemical recycling
  • Electro- or photochemical recycling
  • Catalysis

Submission Instructions

Manuscripts accepted for inclusion in this Special Issue will be highlighted as a significant contribution to this expanding field. If accepted, publications will go online as soon as possible with a DOI, and will be published in one of the next available issues. Publications on this topic will be assembled into a Special Issue and widely promoted.

Submissions are welcome through July 31, 2025. All articles will be peer reviewed prior to acceptance to ensure they fit the scope of the Special Issue and meet the high scientific publishing standards of Precision Chemistry. The peer review process for all papers will be managed by the journal editors to ensure rigor is maintained.

Precision Chemistry is an open access journal. The Article Publishing Charges are waived for this Special Issue.
