It’s that time again. Thomson Reuters released its 2015 Journal Citation Reports®, revealing the most cited, most influential, most impactful journals. But don’t worry if you don’t have time to read the whole thing. Here’s what you need to know:
- ACS leads in citations. ACS journals were cited more than 2.76 million times in 2015, an increase of 6% from 2014. Despite publishing only 6% of the journals reviewed in the chemistry category, ACS journals are responsible for over 30% of citations – more than any other publisher.
- JACS is unmatched. The Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS) is the most-cited peer-reviewed journal in chemistry, with more than 500,000 citations in 2015, an increase of 3% from the year before. JACS achieved its highest Impact Factor to date at 13.038. That’s better than either Wiley and the German Chemical Society’s Angewandte Chemie (11.709) or the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Chemical Science (9.144).
- ACS leads in 14 categories. In all 6 core chemistry categories and 8 related areas, ACS has the most-cited and/or impactful scientific journals.
- 2 new ACS journals were ranked for the first time. ACS Photonics received a first-ever Impact Factor of 5.404, ranking as one of the top 10 journals in the Optics category. Environmental Science and Technology Letters has an inaugural Impact Factor of 4.839, making the top 10 list for the Engineering, Environmental category.
- 17 ACS journals had their highest Impact Factor ever:
- ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces (7.145),
- ACS Macro Letters (5.766),
- ACS Nano (13.334),
- ACS Photonics(5.404),
- ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering(5.267),
- ACS Synthetic Biology (6.076),
- Analytical Chemistry (5.886),
- Chemistry of Materials (9.407),
- Environmental Science & Technology Letters (4.839),
- Inorganic Chemistry (4.820),
- Journal of the American Chemical Society (13.038),
- Journal of Chemical Education (1.225),
- Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters (8.539),
- Journal of Organic Chemistry (4.785),
- Nano Letters (13.779),
- Organic Letters (6.732)
- Organic Process Research & Development (2.922).
