Why should you publish your biological or medicinal chemistry research in an ACS journal?

1. ACS Publications is a nonprofit society publisher and a division of the American Chemical Society.

ACS Publications is an experienced publisher with with nearly 70 years of experience publishing high-quality biological chemistry journals and a focus on serving researchers and the scientific community. We do this by:

  • Enlisting practicing researchers from prominent institutions around the world to serve as Editors-in-Chief and other members of our journals’ editorial teams.
  • Employing a high-quality peer-review process developed over more than 145 years of publishing respected scholarly journals.
  • Expediting manuscript processing to deliver decisions and get papers published as quickly as possible. View peer review metrics here.
  • Offering more than a dozen core biological chemistry journals as well as more than 20 multidisciplinary journals publishing high-impact biological research.

2. ACS journals are highly influential with a global reach.

  • ACS Publications is committed to publishing the most trusted, most cited, and most read science in chemistry-related topics. This is supported by metrics like Journal Impact Factor™, CiteScore, and Total Downloads, all of which can be found here.
  • Readership and authorship in ACS journals spans more than 6,000 institutions in 75 countries.
  • Your research will be seen by peers in your field. Many of our journals are seen as the core community journal for the field they represent.
  • Your research will be seen by researchers in many other fields. In fact, 61% articles that cite ACS Publications are classified as outside the core chemistry categories.

3. ACS offers authors a variety of publishing options.

Authors who publish with ACS can choose to publish in a hybrid journal or in a fully open access journal.

  • It’s free to submit and free to publish in an ACS hybrid journal under the traditional subscription model. That means no author charges, page charges, processing charges, or color charges.
  • Once an article is accepted for publication in an ACS hybrid journal, authors who want to make their article open access—or are required to by their funders—can do so by paying an article publishing charge (APC).
  • ACS also has many fully open access journals, including ACS Bio & Med Chem Au, which serves the biological chemistry research community, as well as ACS Central Science, ACS Omega, and JACS Au, which are broad, multidisciplinary journals.
  • Publishing in an open access journal may require paying an APC after article acceptance but many discounts, promotions, and institutional agreements are available to offset or eliminate this cost.
