For the first time, ACS on Campus is accessible to audiences from all across ASEAN (Southeast Asia) and beyond, virtually! In the age of disconnection, ACS Publications staff were able to connect and share our knowledge for the advancement of science during this global pandemic in the comfort of our homes.
More than 450 students, early-career researchers, and faculty members from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, and all over the world logged on live for the 2-hours webinar on the morning of September 30 to learn from two ACS editors on the tips for publishing and preparing abstracts.
The webinar started with an overview of ACS Resources and its value to researchers on their academic and career journey.
The first guest speaker was Professor Habibah A Wahab, Associate Editor of the Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling, and Dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Science, Malaysia. She shared her insights on the topic, “10 Tips for Scholarly Publishing.” Her presentation gave our audiences a few great takeaways on preparing a manuscript for publications and choosing the most appropriate journal.
The next speaker was Professor Tao Deng, Associate Editor for Chemical Reviews, and the “Zhi Yuan” Chair Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His enthusiasm for sharing his views on The Art of Graphical Abstracts and Why They Matter, inspired our audiences to develop a knockout graphical abstract to stand out from the sea of research papers.
We also invited CAS Specialist Pamela Oon to share the presentation, “How SciFinder Can Contribute to the Research & Publishing Process.” The event ended off with the Chairperson of the ACS Malaysia Chapter, Dr. Mohd Firdaus Abdul Wahab, giving an overview of ACS communities in the region. He also gave a few specific highlights from the ACS Malaysia Chapter & the International Student Chapters in Malaysia.
This event’s success showed us how ACS Publications can still connect with people from the region and around the globe, even while we are physically apart. We hope to see you at the next global ACS on Campus event!
