ACS on Campus came to Chulalongkorn University for the first time on October 10, 2019. With 102 years of history, Chulalongkorn University is the oldest higher education institute in Thailand. It is also ranked 1st in Thailand for the 7th consecutive year by the QS World University Rankings 2020.
The attendance for the event was overwhelming with participants from Chulalongkorn University and other schools across Bangkok. As the ACS Publications Market and Business Development Manager for ASEAN & Oceania, I was present at the event as a moderator.
The event started with a warm opening by the Director of Office of Academic Resources, Associate Professor Amorn Petsom. He also expressed his excitement at having Shanghai Jiao Tong University Professor Tao Deng, Associate Editor of Chemical Reviews, speak at the university.
Professor Tirayut Vilaivan shared his career journey and highlighted the importance of networking through ACS memberships and location association for research collaborations. He also talked about “Advancing Your Career” and shared tips on how to keep yourself up to date on the job market, prepare for a job hunt, and make yourself marketable.
It was an honor to have Professor Makoto Ogawa from Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science & Technology (VISTEC) presented the topic of effective communication. He was academia from Japan, previously working on inorganic materials chemistry at Waseda University.
Overall, the event was a great success. The focus of the program was on how ACS could support the scientific community through ACS content and resources. It also provided opportunities for future research collaborations and networking in Thailand.
It was a fruitful event as participants were able to bring home knowledge on how to succeed at every stage of their professional life through ACS resources aimed at helping attendees “discover, advance, connect and share.” We hope to return next year for another round of ACS on Campus at Chulalongkorn University.
