With this milestone visit, ACS Publications reaffirms its commitment to working closely with Latin American institutions, providing access to trusted, top-quality scientific content, and encouraging a more inclusive and equitable global publishing system.
ACS Publications, the publishing division of the American Chemical Society, visited Panama for the first time in June 2024 and met with faculty at some of the most important academic institutions in the country.
With this milestone visit, ACS Publications reaffirms its commitment to working closely with Latin American countries with the goal of increasing the volume of high-quality scientific research produced and published with ACS.
For Franklin Moreno, ACS Publications' Latin America Market & Business Development Manager, Panama is a country with enormous potential for production of scientific articles. During this recent visit, he had the opportunity to present to the aforementioned institutions about the extensive, multidisciplinary resources that ACS has to offer.
In addition, it was noted that there was great interest from the faculty and leadership at these institutions in Panama for these resources as well as the opportunity for read and publish agreements, where researchers at institutions have the opportunity to publish their scientific articles open access, without having to pay publication fees, also known as APCs.
“I’m very happy with the receptions we received here and I’m confident that with the correct support, researchers at academic institutions in Panama will be able to submit more articles to be published, especially open access, which will contribute immensely to the growth in production of scientific literature from these institutions,” said Franklin.
The institutions that were included in this initial meeting in Panama are:
- Universidad de Panamá
- Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí
- Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá
- Universidad Marítima Internacional de Panamá
- Instituto de investigación Tropical Smithsonian
ACS Publications will continue its efforts to partner with countries in Latin America that are interested in finding out more about the programs and resources available. Anyone interested can reach out to Franklin directly at f_moreno@acs.org.
