The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy's announcement of 2023 as the Year of Open Science—and the advancement of open and public access initiatives across the world—are clear indicators that researchers, institutions, and research funders are increasingly embracing open access (OA). Against this background, we're pleased to announce that OA publication is now even more accessible for researchers at over 100 Primarily Undergraduate Institutions (PUIs) with a new ACS-sponsored program.

Under this program, corresponding authors that are affiliated with a participating PUI will automatically be given the option to publish their research open access in any ACS journal completely free of charge. There's also no administrative overhead for library staff.

The program is available to any PUI that doesn’t offer graduate degrees in the sciences and that subscribes to the ACS All Publications (journals) Package. This offer lasts the duration of the institution’s subscription, with no limit on the number of research articles that can be published open access during that time.

Researchers at PUIs

This program helps your institution sustainably support the transition to open science by growing the amount of work you and your colleagues can publish completely free of charge under a Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 open access license, while also maintaining full access to ACS subscription content. Publishing your work under this program also meets the public access requirements of many research funders.

More information about this program and other topics for authors, librarians and administrators can be found on the ACS Open Science website.
