The ChemRxiv Scientific Advisory Board is a global group of advisors who support the management of ChemRxiv by providing feedback on its scope and policies. The Board features 28 renowned researchers from 17 countries working across diverse subject areas who act as liaisons for their peers in the scientific community. Our Board members bring new ideas, concerns, and other suggestions to grow the service in accordance with the needs and desires of the chemistry community.
We sat down with the two newest members, Professor Felipe Herrera from the University of Santiago, Chile and Professor Shu-Li You from the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry to talk briefly about their background and interest in ChemRxiv. Read their interviews below.
Professor Felipe Herrera
Tell us about your research focus.
We work on quantum nanophotonics with organic materials, cold molecules and quantum optics with metal-organic frameworks.
What prior experience do you have with preprints?
As a publishing author, I have traditionally published my work in arXiv and more recently ChemRxiv for results that have a broader audience among chemists.
What made you interested in getting involved with ChemRxiv?
I found the invitation to participate in the Board appealing because I could serve to bridge the server with more physics-oriented research that would otherwise be posted on arXiv, but could also benefit from reaching a broader audience in physical chemistry.
What role do you think preprints will play in the future?
The early dissemination of high-quality results at a marginal cost for readers will continue to serve a fundamental purpose in the scientific enterprise and more broadly benefit society.
Professor Shu-Li You
Tell us about your research focus.
My group focus is on asymmetric catalysis including asymmetric C-H functionalization and asymmetric dearomatization reactions.
What prior experience do you have with preprints?
We have submitted several preprints prior to the submission of publication to other journals.
What made you interested in getting involved with ChemRxiv?
I like the feature of rapid publication without peer review, which allows the community to see the exciting scientific results rapidly.
What role do you think preprints will play in the future?
Since the pace of society is increasing, preprints will be increasingly important in the future as they allow research to be rapidly available to a broad community of scientists.
