JACS Family Expands with Fully Open Access Journal JACS Au

For over 140 years, the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS) has been a leader in publishing the best chemistry research. Now the JACS family is expanding to meet the needs of exceptional researchers looking to get their research in front of the broadest possible audience with ACS Publications’ newest journal, JACS Au.

JACS Au (pronounced “JACS Gold”) will launch later this year as a fully open-access, peer-reviewed journal that lives up to the incredibly high editorial standards that have made the original JACS the most-cited journal in all of chemistry. It will publish cutting-edge, high-impact research from every chemistry discipline, and make it available to an even wider audience since every paper published in it will be free to read.

JACS and JACS Au will be editorially independent of each other. JACS Au will have its own experienced, diverse, global editorial team, looking to give the most exciting and novel research the biggest possible impact. The journal will meet the needs of elite chemists looking for a top-tier journal who either want or need to publish their work in a fully open access journal.

The journal is another opportunity for ACS Publications to support the scientists and researchers who are required by Europe’s Plan S to publish only in completely open access journals. The launch of JACS Au is the latest in a long line of developments demonstrating ACS Publications’ commitment to open access publishing. In 2015, ACS established ACS Central Science, the Society’s first completely open-access journal, followed by ACS Omega in 2016. Through 2019, ACS Publications signed a significant number of transformative “read and publish” agreements, through which thousands of articles are now being made open access across the entire ACS Publications portfolio of world-class international journals. Authors publishing in any ACS journal can publish their research open access by purchasing an ACS Author’s Choice license, with both CC-BY and CC-BY-NC-ND options.

JACS Au will begin accepting submissions in the summer of 2020, with the first issue to follow in 2021. Bookmark this post and check back often for announcements about the journal’s editorial board and submission process.
