Founding Editor-in-Chief Thomas F. Hofmann, Ph.D. and Deputy Editor Jaume Amengual, Ph.D. will lead ACS Nutrition Science in publishing significant research breakthroughs in nutrition science, technology and engineering that contribute to human health.

The Publications Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) announces the launch of ACS Nutrition Science, a peer-reviewed journal that will publish significant research breakthroughs in nutrition science, technology, and engineering that contribute to human health. The journal will be led by its inaugural Editor-in-Chief Thomas F. Hofmann, Ph.D., and Deputy Editor Jaume Amengual, Ph.D.
Professor Hofmann is the President and Chair of Food Chemistry and Molecular and Sensory Science at Technische Universität München in Germany and is also the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, ACS Food Science & Technology, and ACS Agricultural Science & Technology. Professor Amengual is an Associate Professor in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in the United States.
"As the latest addition to our portfolio, ACS Nutrition Science will provide a trusted platform for impactful nutrition research and support our commitment to improve all lives through the transforming power of chemistry,” said ACS Publications Senior Vice President and Chief Publishing Officer Sarah Tegen, Ph.D. “We’re excited to have two brilliant and driven scientists leading this journal, with Professors Hofmann and Amengual at its helm."
Professors Hofmann and Amengual are accomplished researchers in their areas of expertise and have been recognized with several awards. Professor Hofmann’s research explores the screening, identification, and quantification of organoleptic, bioactive, and techno-functional natural products in foodstuffs and raw materials of vegetable origin, and Professor Amengual’s research focuses on carotenoid and lipoprotein metabolism.
“ACS Nutrition Science is uniquely positioned to fill an important gap in the prestigious ACS portfolio by covering key research areas ranging from molecular nutrition to clinical nutrition,” said Professor Amengual. “Its innovative and multidisciplinary approach will foster the exchange of diverse perspectives in the field of nutrition with the goal of becoming a leading journal in nutrition science. As the journal's inaugural Deputy Editor, I am honored and committed to help lead ACS Nutrition Science in its mission to publish cutting-edge, high-quality papers while upholding the quality standards in the ACS family, promoting transparency, and ensuring the novelty in this dynamic area.”

Professor Hofmann obtained his doctorate and completed his postdoctoral studies in the Chemistry Department of Technische Universität München. Professor Amengual earned his doctorate in Molecular Nutrition from the University of the Balearic Islands in Spain and postdoctoral trainings at Case Western Reserve University and New York University in the United States.
ACS Nutrition Science will begin accepting submissions in June 2025 and will publish its first issue in early 2026. The journal will publish original, peer-reviewed research in the form of articles, letters, reviews, and viewpoints. Learn more about ACS Nutrition Science.
