This year, ACS Publications spearheaded advances in sustainable scientific research through a series of workshops across India. Read on to explore the insights discussed in these gatherings, uniting top researchers and editors to address the pressing environmental challenges of our time and marking a significant stride towards a sustainable future.
ACS Publications has always been at the forefront of discovering new solutions to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable resource usage in an economically viable chemical enterprise. To reinforce our ongoing dedication to a more sustainable and equitable future, ACS Publications recently joined the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Publishers Compact.
Today, the whole world—including India—experiences clear trends in rising heat waves, floods, landslides, droughts and cyclones. This marks a high time to spread awareness in the community and stay committed to our role in saving the earth and its inhabitants.
As a part of our continued endeavors to sensitize the community, a series of ACS Workshops were hosted in 2023 across four institutes in India:
Through workshops like these, our mission is to cultivate communities of researchers who can work together to develop scientific solutions for the benefit of both humanity and the environment. All four of this year's events witnessed strong participation from active researchers, including established professors, young scientists, and students ready to take challenges in today’s climate-variable world.
The events featured insightful panels and workshops hosted by both ACS journal Editors and Staff. Key session highlights included scientific lectures; journal awareness around the Environmental Science & Technology (ES&T) journal portfolio; tips on scholarly publishing success; and "Ask the Editors" Q&A sessions covering peer review, editorial processes, geographical diversity of editors, and the emergence of AI in publishing.
We want to recognize the following ACS journal Editors, Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) Members, and Staff—as well as high-profile researchers in India—whose time, efforts, and commitment to advancing the field were instrumental in making these events a resounding success:
- Prof. Bryan Brooks, Editor-in-Chief, ES&T Letters
- Prof. Ramesh Gardas, Associate Editor, Journal of Chemical & Engineering Data
- Prof. Manish Kumar, Topic Editor, ES&T Letters and EAB Member, ACS ES&T Engineering
- Prof. Vinayak Sinha, EAB Member ES&T Letters
- Prof. T. Pradeep, Associate Editor, ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering and EAB Member, ES&T
- Prof. V. C. Srivastava, IIT Roorkee
