ACS Applied Energy Materials invites bold, field‑advancing submissions for regular issues. We continue to strongly encourage submissions in the journal’s established areas of excellence, including batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells, photovoltaics, photocatalysis, hydrogen storage, thermoelectrics, and thermal energy storage. At the same time, the journal seeks to expand into emerging directions in energy infrastructure and next-generation energy systems (see below).
We especially encourage early‑career researchers — doctoral candidates, postdocs, and new PIs — who are moving the needle with fresh ideas and rigorous methods. First‑time corresponding authors are warmly welcomed. We equally invite senior authors and established teams to contribute ambitious work and to co‑author with emerging scholars.

- Materials for Extreme-Environment Geothermal and Supercritical Energy Systems
- Materials for Concentrated Solar and Solar-Thermochemical Systems
- Materials for Hydrogen Transport and Infrastructure
- Materials for Ammonia-Based Hydrogen Storage, Cracking, and Separation
- Materials for Direct Air/Ocean Capture and Ion-Selective Separations
- Materials for Fusion and Advanced Fission Energy Systems
- Materials for Methane Pyrolysis and Carbon-Product Engineering

Manuscripts submitted for consideration will undergo the full rigorous peer review process expected from ACS journals.
