Join ACS Publications in celebrating China’s leading researchers, cultural heritage, and impactful work published in the journal.

Organic Letters has long been the home for Chinese chemists working at the forefront of organic chemistry. In 2020, then Associate Editor Kuiling Ding organized a Collection entitled Organic Chemistry in China: Synthetic Methodology, Natural Products, and More. In Prof. Ding’s introductory editorial, he recognizes the “vigorous growth” in academic and research institutions in China, which lead the “rich and innovative research” showcased in the Collection. Five years later, the progress and innovation in organic chemistry in China plays an ever more vital role in advancing the field. Organic Letters seeks to celebrate China’s leading researchers, cultural heritage, and impactful work published in the journal.
Chinese New Year Cover Series
Earlier this year, the journal published a series of Chinese New Year-themed front covers to celebrate the Year of the Snake: a symbol of wisdom, transformation and renewal in Chinese culture. This fusion reflects both cultural heritage and the vibrant synergy driving the frontiers in organic chemistry of China. Browse all of the beautiful covers below, and click below each cover to learn more about the inspiration and research behind the artwork.
Collection—Advancing Organic Chemistry in China: Sustainability, Precision, and Empowerment
Following up on the success of the 2020 China Collection, Organic Letters has set out to celebrate today’s researchers at the forefront of organic chemistry in China. As such, the journal is proud to highlight 36 Letters published by Chinese chemists in 2024 in this second-edition Collection, entitled Advancing Organic Chemistry in China: Sustainability, Precision, and Empowerment.
Curated by Executive Editor Gong Chen and Associate Editors Liu-Zhu Gong and Guosheng Liu, this Collection elevates both pioneering and rising voices in the community. The Letters selected span a range of specialties including synthetic methodology, natural products isolation and total synthesis, chemical biology, carbohydrate chemistry, molecular/skeletal editing, and functional materials. The accompanying editorial from Profs. Chen, Gong, and Liu outlines today’s evolving organic chemistry landscape in China.

ACS All-Star Academy Webinar
In conjunction with publishing this Collection, Organic Letters and ACS Publications held an ACS All-Star Academy webinar in early March 2025. This was the inaugural event in 2025 of the ACS All-Star Academy series: events initiated by the ACS Publications team in China to facilitate direct engagement between ACS Editors and target audiences on pertinent topics.
We invited 27 of the authors highlighted in this Collection to share their insights behind their Letters and discuss the trends in organic chemistry in China with Editors Gong Chen, Liu-Zhu Gong, and Guosheng Liu, along with Editor-in-Chief Marisa Kozlowski. The webinar livestream attracted 8000+ live views across Zoom and WeChat. Conversations focused on tips for publishing in Organic Letters, primary data deposition, career development prospects, and new initiatives at ACS. For those who were unable to attend the live stream or desire to hear more about the insightful discussions, please find comprehensive details at the ACS WeChat official account by searching "ACS activities."
Celebrating Organic Letters’ global author base remains a priority for the journal. We send a special thanks to all the authors who contributed to the Chinese New Year cover series and 2025 China Collection!
