Find out how ACS' new agreement with Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí is benefiting researchers in Panama.

ACS Publications' institutional open access agreements are also known as "read and publish" agreements, as they include reading access to ACS' full portfolio of subscription journals, as well as covering some or all of the pathways to open access for affiliated authors.

One of our most recent agreements was signed with Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí, Panama, following discussions earlier in the year. The agreement, that runs through June 2027, includes unlimited open access publishing for researchers at UNACHI during that period.

At the university's event marking this initiative, Dr. Pedro González (Vice Chancellor of Research and Postgraduate Research, UNACHI) said:

"Con el acuerdo colaborativo (transformatve) entre la Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí y la American Chemical Society, tenemos un hito histórico en la universidad en lo referente a la academia y la investigación. Dado que este acuerdo permite a los estudiantes, docentes y administrativos de la Universidad tener acceso a un sinnúmero de publicaciones de alto impacto. La American Chemical Society es la editorial de mayor impacto a nivel mundial en temas de ciencia y tecnología. Y hoy la Universidad Autónoma ha firmado este acuerdo. Que vamos a tener entonces una potenciación de el ambiente de investigación y académicos en nuestra universidad."
("With the collaborative agreement (ACS read and publish agreement) between the Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí (UNACHI) and the American Chemical Society, we have a historic milestone for academia and research since this agreement allows students, teachers and administrators of the University to have access to countless high-impact publications.The American Chemical Society is the most impactful publisher worldwide in science and technology. And today the Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí has signed this agreement. We are going to have a strengthened research environment.")
